Chattanooga, Tenn., – Chattanooga Christian junior Brandon Mason has been a staple in the success of the Chargers 2015 campaign. Mason’s versatility has proved helpful and has also helped gain the two sport athlete some college interest.

Mason, also a member of the Charger football team, says his passion is in the game of baseball as he wants to continue playing the sport at the next level.

“Baseball is definitely my favorite sport,” Mason said. “I feel more comfortable in baseball. I can control what I am doing whether it is on the mound or at the plate.”

Mason has definitely controlled what he has done at both of those spots very well this season. Mason is 4-0 on the mound for the 19-2 Chargers with a 1.36 ERA and a team leading 35 strikeouts. Mason also leads the Chargers in batting with a .397 average.

“I feel more comfortable [at the plate] this season,” Mason said. “I did a whole lot of work in the offseason with my trainer to get my batting right. I have been more aggressive than I have ever been.”

Not only does Mason pitch, he also plays just about every other position imaginable. He is listed on the roster as a pitcher, third baseman, shortstop and outfielder. Although Mason enjoys every position and likes the experience of playing multiple positions, he enjoys playing in the outfield due to his speed and athleticism.

“I like playing different positions,” Mason said. “It gives me a lot of experience, but playing outfield is probably my favorite. I can use my speed to my advantage.”

Mason’s pitching, hitting and experience all across the diamond has caught the eye of college coaches. Mason, who performed in a few camps over the winter, really saw his recruiting take off during those winter months.

“I have had a lot of colleges interested,” Mason said. ” Louisville, Kentucky and North Carolina are the main schools I am looking at right now. They have been recruiting me since winter when I went to a few camps.”

Although Mason has yet to pick up an official offer yet, he says, in recent talks with Kentucky and North Carolina, they are “a step closer to offering.”

As of now, most schools are interested in Mason as a position player rather than on the mound. With the rest of his junior year and a whole year left to play his senior season, Mason has plenty of time to make a decision and pick up that coveted first offer.
